Use a soccer tactics board to make movement visible
A board is most useful when it helps players answer a game question. Start with a shape, move the ball to a realistic situation, and talk through the options together.

01
1. Choose a formation
Set the game format and starting shape. Use the formation as a shared reference for the team’s lines and roles, not as a set of fixed coordinates.
02
2. Put the ball in context
Move the ball to where your team is likely to encounter a decision: near the goalkeeper, in the middle third, or in a wide attacking area. Ask players what options are available.
03
3. Switch the phase
Compare the attacking picture with the defending picture. Ask who supports the ball, who protects the center and how quickly the team can recover if possession changes.
04
4. Focus on one role
Select a player to read their current role instruction. Pin the role to keep following it as you change the scenario. This keeps the discussion focused on a player’s decisions and responsibilities.
05
5. Share the setup
Use the share control under the board to copy a link to the current setup. A shared visual gives players and assistant coaches a common starting point before practice or a match.
Try the idea
Move the ball and follow the shape
Choose a scenario, switch phase, or select a player for their role card. The board responds as you explore.
Try it: drag the ball and watch your team shift with it.
Common questions
What should I draw on a soccer tactics board?
Start with the formation, the ball location and the players whose decisions matter in the situation. Add only enough context to make the coaching question clear.
Can I use an online tactics board on a phone?
This board supports touch interaction and adapts to narrow screens. You can move the ball and players, change scenarios and share a setup from the browser.
